Sunderland’s form has dipped, yet their Premier League return remains encouraging, with the Black Cats 12th, 11 points above the bottom three and four off seventh. According to Sunderland Echo, focus is shifting to contracts in Regis Le Bris’ squad ahead of the summer.
Simon Moore, Bertrand Traore, Dennis Cirkin, Dan Neil and Harrison Jones are out of contract, while Lutsharel Geertruida is on loan from RB Leipzig. It remains to be seen whether Sunderland try to sign Geertruida permanently, especially after Liverpool’s surprise approach at the end of the January transfer window.
Neil has joined Ipswich Town on loan and the club have already said he will not receive an extension. Moore and Jones are on the fringes and are likely to depart once their deals lapse.
Traore has shown flashes with his dribbling but has only one goal this season. Cirkin’s minutes have been limited, yet he offers reliable, low-cost cover at left-back.
Four others are contracted to summer 2027, Reinildo Mandava, Luke O’Nien, Ian Poveda and Abdoullah Ba.
Reinildo has been first choice when fit since arriving from Atletico Madrid last summer and, turning 33 next season, he will expect an extension on current form. O’Nien, a promotion stalwart, has played only 21 minutes of Premier League football this season and may seek an exit if his situation does not improve. Sunderland will likely look to move Poveda and Ba before 2027.
