Are Blues looking at a blockbuster return to St. Andrew's for Adams?
Birmingham City DO have an outstanding interest in Che Adams, Football League World can exclusively reveal.
The Scotland international remains on the shortlist of transfer targets that the club was looking at this summer as they looked to be ambitious in the market upon their return to the Championship.
A number of exciting names have arrived in the Midlands this summer, including ex-Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Tommy Doyle and a City homecoming for Demarai Gray, but one player who was linked and hasn't returned as of yet is Scotland international Adams.
The 29-year-old striker is currently with Torino after joining from Southampton on a free transfer last summer, and bagged 10 goals in his first campaign with the Serie A side.
Blues tested the water as to his availability by making an enquiry to his intermediaries, but it appears that the total package was understood to have been too rich for the club to pursue - even before they splashed out £10 million on Kyogo.
After breaking through at Sheffield United, Adams was given a platform at St. Andrew’s after then-boss Gary Rowett signed him nine years ago.
And he has still has several admirers among the club’s backroom team who had pushed for a return for the player.
But it is understood that the ambitious Championship club switched their attention to Germany international Marvin Ducksch once it became apparent that there was no further traction with Adams.
Ducksch was brought in for £2m from Werder Bremen and the club is hoping the rangy 31-year-old can act as a foil for their current star strikers Furuhashi and Jay Stansfield.
The Germany international is currently out-of-action with a calf issue picked up during his first week of pre-season training with Bremen last month.
According to boss Chris Davies, he is undergoing an ‘extensive period of rehabilitation’ and is unlikely to be involved for another fortnight, which means his debut could come in the August 29 away trip to Leicester City prior to the first international break of the season.
And whilst Che Adams may not be returning to Birmingham anytime soon despite the interest, Birmingham have at least got their house in order when it comes to their attacking options.
