Yesterday evening, David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano were among the sources confirming that Chelsea had fixed a deal for Liam Delap of Ipswich.
This is a major move ahead of the summer. Chelsea have the Nicolas Jackson backup they need, and nice and early in the window too. As well as sorting out our immediate needs, it also makes clear what we want to do in other parts of the team – and a major part of that will be moving players on.

Christopher Nkunku never fit as a Jackson backup stylistically, and has had his bags packed for a move away for some time. The rumours so far have seen some rather unconvincing connections to Bayern Munich, but we’ve now had word from our sources that a move within the Premier League is also possible.
Our source says Chelsea want €60m-65m, which realistically means they’ll probably accept €55m with bonuses.
Tottenham and Newcastle are both said to be considering a bid – but both want a loan deal with an option to buy. As always, Chelsea would rather sell, but they may accept that letting Nkunku score some Premier League goals and play a full season somewhere is the best way to get a good return on selling him.
Right now, it’s hard to see anyone paying the money we want in straight cash.
There’s no doubting Nkunku is an amazing talent, but he is never going to fit with the football that Enzo Maresca wants to play. He’s unlucky that Cole Palmer emerged as a world class player during that fateful injury absence which really killed his Chelsea career before it had ever begun.
Loaning him and letting him thrive for a year could be a smart move.
