A fresh twist could prevent Lyndon Dykes from leaving Birmingham City amid interest from Charlton Athletic, Football League World has learned
Birmingham City will only sanction a sale for Lyndon Dykes if additional firepower can be recruited in order to offset the striker's departure from St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park this month, Football League World understands.
The ambitious Second City outfit face a key January transfer window as Knighthead seek to move past an inconsistent first-half of the campaign back in the Championship and kick on with their promotion mission.
A host of departures from Blues are expected in the coming weeks, whereas head coach Chris Davies will also intend on adding further quality to help push the side up the table and into promotion contention while alleviating remaining pressure and scrutiny surrounding his own future in the dugout.
One player widely-tipped to head out of the exit door is Dykes, although a new twist has now emerged regarding the Scottish international's immediate future in B9.
Football League World can exclusively reveal that Dykes will only be offloaded by Birmingham if the club can source a replacement, with the ex-QPR frontman currently left in limbo amid interest from Championship rivals Charlton Athletic.

The Addicks are eager to take Dykes off Blues' hands in a bid to strengthen their survival bid further down the table, although City have blocked a move to avoid being potentially left short up front.
FLW understands that Birmingham have no interest in letting Dykes leave until fresh firepower is added to Davies' side, which may mean that the 30-year-old's exit comes late in the window.
Davies previously explained how he would not stand in the way of the forward if he wanted to push through a move for regular minutes elsewhere, having been used sparingly in the second-tier this term, but his future now hangs very much up in the air.
Dykes has played a bit-part role for Blues ever since his switch from QPR in the summer of 2024, scoring just once from 25 appearances but only nine league starts as the outfit achieved a record-breaking promotion out of League One last term.

With Marvin Ducksch and Kyogo Furuhashi both arriving over the summer, Dykes' opportunities have been even more limited at Championship level and the powerful striker has started on merely two occasions.
He has, however, provided some crucial moments, scoring late winners in early-season victories over Swansea City and Blackburn Rovers.
Dykes could be among a host of players on the way out of Birmingham this month, as FLW can also reveal that up to eight members of Davies' squad could be offloaded throughout January.
FLW has learned that permanent exits will be sought for both Alfons Sampsted and Willum Willumsson, while Marc Leonard and Keshi Anderson will also be available to leave at the right price.
Lee Buchanan could find himself sent out on loan once he's back from injury too, following the arrival of Kai Wagner from Philadelphia Union, whereas both Eiran Cashin and Lewis Koumas are set to return to parent clubs Brighton and Hove Albion and Liverpool respectively.

Birmingham are intent on clearing house and will be targeting quality over quantity this month, with director of football Craig Gardner eager to strengthen the forward line as the aforementioned Kyogo still awaits his first league goal in Blues colours.
Another attacking midfielder is also on the agenda, whereas replacements for Cashin and Leonard will both be sought if and when the pair depart in what looks to be an extremely busy window at Blues.
