Nico Schlotterbeck continues to be mentioned as a candidate for FC Bayern, but a former Bayern star advises the international against a move to Munich.
The future of Nico Schlotterbeck remains open. The centre-back is still tied to Borussia Dortmund until 2027, but several top international clubs are keeping a close eye on his situation. BVB would like to extend his contract, but are also faced with sporting questions – because there are said to be doubts among the player’s entourage as to how the team will develop under Niko Kovac.
Schlotterbeck basically feels at home in Dortmund, but his sporting prospects are a decisive factor in the question of whether he wants to stay long-term. BVB would be prepared to go to its financial limits, but an agreement is not in sight. An extension is currently not imminent.
Ex-national player Thomas Helmer is now weighing in on this discussion. The former Bayern professional thinks highly of Schlotterbeck – and even gives the 25-year-old a clear recommendation.
„Nico Schlotterbeck is a player that all top clubs should take a look at. There are reports in Germany that he could move to Bayern Munich because he has not yet signed a new contract in Dortmund,“ said Helmer in an interview with Poker Firma.
He advised the BVB star to move abroad: „He is a very good player – a strong, left-footed centre-back who is very clever with and without the ball. Personally, I think he would be a very good transfer for Liverpool if Konaté moves to Real Madrid. Alongside Virgil van Dijk on the left, that would be a very strong duo.“

In addition to Liverpool, other international clubs are also considered potential buyers should Schlotterbeck decide against an extension at BVB.
Another option being discussed in Dortmund is a contract extension with a release clause, which would allow the player to change his contract in 2027 or 2028 if required, while BVB would simultaneously secure a high transfer fee – a model that has also been used in other cases.
