The Moroccan women's national team was thoroughly outclassed by North Korea in the round of 16 of the U17 Women's World Cup.

The Atlas Lionesses suffered a heavy 6-1 defeat, having been completely dominated by an Asian side that asserted both their technical and physical superiority.

To discuss the reasons behind this collapse, Foot Africa reached out to Moroccan journalist Ahmed Mechouary, who shared his insights:

In my opinion, this defeat was predictable given the gulf in class between the two squads. The Atlas Lionesses lacked punch and were simply not up to the challenge physically or tactically. The Moroccan side showed numerous shortcomings, both in terms of physicality and tactical awareness. Ultimately, they paid the price for these weaknesses against a Korean team packed with talented players.Let's not forget that North Korea, the record holders in this competition with three titles, dominated their group by winning every match against Mexico, Cameroon, and the Netherlands. It's crucial to learn from this setback and implement a strategy that will help women's football bridge the gap with the sport's global powerhouses.
