Ezri Konsa has bid an emotional farewell to Aston Villa after sealing a £55m move to Arsenal, saying he will never forget his seven years at the club.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, the England defender posted a video on social media when the transfer was confirmed on Friday, adding he could not put into words how much the supporters mean to him.
Konsa made 286 appearances after arriving from Brentford for £12m in 2019, playing a central part in the team’s success under Unai Emery up to last season’s Europa League triumph.
Addressing fans, the 28-year-old reflected on special nights at Villa Park, Champions League nights and becoming European champions. He said he joined as a boy and leaves a man, and that the memories and the backing will stay with him.
Villa will receive an initial £51m, with a further £4m potentially due in add-ons. In a statement the club described the centre-back as universally popular and highly respected around the training ground, and a role model for academy players, adding he leaves with the best wishes of everyone.
Konsa becomes the fourth high-profile departure this summer after Youri Tielemans, Lucas Digne and Morgan Rogers. Earlier on Friday, Emery said the players deserved their moves, praising their commitment, discipline, responsibility and respect, and expressing his gratitude.
