FA CUP DRAW: Bristol City to meet promotion rivals Southampton in FA Cup third round

Barclays Women’s Championship heavyweights Bristol City and Southampton FC have been drawn together in the third round of this season’s Vitality Women’s FA Cup.

The draw for the third round took place live on talkSPORT2 this evening. The draw was split into northern and southern sections. The 28 surviving clubs from the second round were joined in the draw by 12 elite clubs from the Barclays Women’s Championship.

In the northern section, there is an all-Barclays Women’s Championship affair as Blackburn Rovers host Sunderland while second tier Sheffield United face a Nottingham Forest side with plenty of ambition. Fourth tier club Newcastle United will have wanted a glamour tie but they have been drawn at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

In the southern section, Bristol City’s showdown with Barclays Women’s Championship promotion rivals Southampton at The Robins’ High Performance Centre is the pick of the entire draw. London City Lionesses, Charlton Athletic, Crystal Palace and Lewes have all been drawn at home to lower division opposition.

The 20 third round ties will take place on Sunday 11 December 2022. The winners have a chance of being paired with a Barclays Women’s Super League club in the fourth round.
