Hull will come up against former boss Liam Rosenior on Friday night at the MKM. The Tigers are unlikely promotion contenders in the Championship, yet their form has dropped off a little in February, failing to win back-to-back home games. Nevertheless, the majority of their best work has come on the road this season, so perhaps a trip to Stamford Bridge would have given them a better chance of causing an upset?
The Tigers are in the process of introducing some new faces, with Paddy McNair having already started a game and Lewis Koumas having contributed considerably with the winner at Blackburn. This could be a good chance for Kieran Dowell and Toby Collyer to be given some minutes, especially when you consider how much space Bristol City were afforded in the centre of the park at the weekend.
The hosts played out a dire 0-0 draw with Blackburn in the previous round of the competition, but this will be viewed as more of a free-hit for the club. Sergej Jakirovic is likely to name a strong XI, with no game scheduled for midweek and they should play on the front foot. Notwithstanding the result, Oli McBurnie's constant pestering troubled the Bristol City defence, and Liam Millar was full of creativity from the bench.
It's a tight turnaround for Chelsea who come off the back of a midweek Premier League clash with Leeds. Rosenior is likely to rotate for Friday's fixture, although he does have plenty of fitness issues to work around. Andrey Santos has only just returned to fitness and his minutes are likely to managed carefully, whereas Levi Colwill, Romeo Lavia, Jamie Gittens and Tosin Adarabioyo aren't likely to be fit enough to feature.
Former Hull frontman Liam Delap will be hoping to feature against his former club, with Alejandro Garnacho, Josh Acheampong and Estavao all in contention, alongside Marc Guiu, who led the line against Charlton in the previous round.
Chelsea have plenty of strength-in-depth, despite the increasing number of injuries. This may be a good time to capitalise on Hull's downturn in form, although they will not have it all their own way. The Blues have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last away games and have drawn just a single blank on their travels in the PL. They weren't able to keep Charlton off the scoresheet in January, and they may struggle to keep the hosts at arm's length here.
Phil Parkinson tends to name strong XIs for FA Cup ties, although his selection will be restricted by injuries on Friday night. LWB has become an issue following James McLean's departure and Liberato Cacace's injury, so we are likely to see George Thomason playing this role. The former Bolton man offers plenty of energy getting forward, whilst occasionally neglecting his defensive duties. Matty James' footballing brain will be missed in the centre of the park too, and it remains to be seen whether Zak Vyner and Nathan Broadhead are fit enough to start this game. The latter had a groin complaint recently and may not be risked.
The recent rules changes now allow players to feature for two different clubs in the FA Cup, which is good news for Davis Keillor-Dunn, who has already featured in the competition for Barnsley.
Parky will be mindful of Tuesday's match against Bristol City and he may opt to give key players a breather, with George Dobson, Josh Windass and Sam Smith all hoping to deputise. Despite playing second fiddle to Keiffer Moore this season, both Windass and Smith have a decent goal return, with the latter netting five times in just 664 minutes. He looks like a decent option to add to that impressive tally.
With the play-offs a realistic possibility and the January transfer window closed, the former Bolton boss will keen to keep his talented squad fresh.
Ipswich do not have a league match next week, but with the Tractor Boys' game against Pompey having been called off last week, they will be aware that the final few months of the season are likely to get fairly congested. Kieran McKenna has rarely prioritised this competition and he is unlikely to risk Ashley Young, Jaden Philogene or Marcelino Nunez on Friday night with the trio having only just returned from some warm-weather training. Wes Burns looks to have picked up an injury and will be rested for this one.
Kasey McAteer's eye-catching cameo from the bench may have earned him a start in this game, alongside Chuba Akpom, Jens-Lys Cajuste and potentially, Sindre Walle Egelli, who is yet to nail down his best position in this team.
The Suffolk side dominated Blackpool in the previous round, but this is likely to be far tougher. It's hard to work out where McKenna's priorities lie, however, Coventry's stuttering form, gives them a realistic chance of ousting the Sky Blues from the top two, and it would be perfectly understandable if the Northern Irishman was to take some of the standout squad members out of the spotlight on Friday evening.
With changes for both teams, this could be a fairly open affair. Ipswich could get some joy down the right hand side, and Wrexham have plenty of options in forward areas. Backing goals is the best way to go.
