The Seagulls will be without a host of senior players for trip to north London
Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler has confirmed Kaoru Mitoma is set to miss out against Arsenal.
A foot problem sustained in the 3-1 win over Chelsea last month has seen the winger sit out the Seagulls' last three Premier League games, including the 4-2 loss to Manchester United at the weekend.
Mitoma also missed both of Japan’s international’s earlier in the month, but Hurzeler revealed before the trip to Old Trafford that the issue was really small and “nothing serious”.
Brighton travel to the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, seeking to knock Arsenal out of the competition for the second time four seasons.
Hopes of repeating the 3-1 win from the 2022-23 season have been hit after Hurzeler revealed that he does not expect to have Mitoma available for selection.
Both Premier League meetings between Arsenal and Brighton last season finished 1-1, though there was a decision in the fixture at the Emirates that left Gunners manager Mikel Arteta “amazed”.
Declan Rice was shown a second yellow card early in the second half after referee Chris Kavanagh judged that he had stopped Joel Veltman from taking a quick free-kick.
Veltman, who a week later admitted the red card was “harsh”, has also not featured for Brighton since the win over Chelsea because of a calf problem.
A first return to the Emirates since the incident for the Dutchman looks unlikely, while Brajan Gruda and James Milner are also set to miss out with the latter suffering a “small muscle issue”.
