Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler has resolved his future to give the squad clarity as they chase European qualification.

The club said in a statement that the 33-year-old has signed a new contract until 2029, replacing a deal running to 2027, after interest from Bayer Leverkusen.

Ahead of Saturday’s penultimate home match against relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers, he stressed that clarity around the final three games was crucial and that talks concluded quickly because late-season noise and offers can distract. The focus now is on performance and finishing strongly.

Brighton are eighth on 50 points in a congested chase, with Bournemouth sixth on 52 and Fulham 11th on 48. It remains unclear how many league places will carry Champions League, Europa League or Europa Conference League qualification.

Mats Wieffer, ankle, and Diego Gomez, knee, are doubts to face Wolves, while James Milner and Solly March are back in contention after injuries.

Wieffer was forced off midway through the 3-0 win over Chelsea and played only 18 minutes of the 3-1 defeat at Newcastle United. If he is ruled out, Jan Veltman could come in or Ferdi Kadioglu may move to right-back, with Maxim De Cuyper at left-back.

Brighton finish away to Leeds United on 17 May, then host Manchester United on 24 May.
