Sevilla are working on an exit for Fábio Cardoso to trim first-team costs after the Spanish window shut. According to La Colina De Nervion, the 32-year-old centre-back remains outside the group while options in open markets are explored.

Any sale would carry limited immediate sporting impact, with the main effect in the club’s accounts. The Saudi Pro League window runs until Sunday 6 September, two days from now, keeping a viable route on the table.

Cardoso joined Sevilla on 1 September 2025 from FC Porto on a two-year deal. His 2025/26 output was sparse, four LaLiga appearances and 298 minutes without goals or assists, plus one Copa del Rey tie.

He is not in Luis García Plaza’s plans for the start of 2026/27 and continues to train away from the group. A departure now could not be used to register an immediate replacement in Spain, but it would reduce current squad cost.

Summer strategy under sporting director José Ignacio Navarro has centred on cutting out salaries for players outside the plan and generating headroom under LaLiga rules. In late August there was capacity to register, although activity depended on cost, and work continued after deadline with markets still open.

Savings would not automatically become identical room for January, since the squad cost limit depends on the wider finances and LaLiga criteria. Saudi Arabia remains an option, and Cardoso previously spent 2024/25 on loan at Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates.
