Fabrizio Ravanelli was personally appointed by Olympique de Marseille president Pablo Longoria in Spring 2024 – but now the former OM, Middlesborough, and Juventus striker looks now set for a departure from the club after having taken a step back in his responsibilities as sporting and institutional advisor along with Jean-Pierre Papin. According to a report from La Provence, the Italian and the Provençal club are set to part ways definitively. Ravanelli, who made 64 appearances and scored 28 goals for Les Olympiens from 1997 to 2000, was initially brought to the club last year in a role which saw him tasked with media-facing duties and welcoming new signings to the club. The Italian maintained close ties with Roberto De Zerbi’s staff. That connection is understood to have caused friction in the latter half of the season.“There’s a way of meddling in others’ affairs that I haven’t seen anywhere else in the world,” said president Pablo Longoria during his end of season press conference attended by Get French Football News at the end of last season. “It’s a disease, and I want to eradicate this disease.”La Provence reported that Ravanelli was not seen as part of the future of the club envisaged by director of football Medhi Benatia, who was the driving force behind this summer’s structural changes.
