Barcelona are set for a busy end to the summer transfer window, and it could be headlined by the departure of Ferran Torres. The 2026 World Cup final matchwinner has been strongly linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain in recent weeks, and the back-to-back European champions are ready to seek out a transfer before the end of the month.
Torres, who has less than a year remaining on his contract, has not closed the door on a Barcelona exit this summer, which will give PSG encouragement that they can get their man. On the other hand, it would be a big blow for Barcelona to lose a player that has been very dependable over the last few seasons, although in their eyes, it would not be the end of the world.
Despite the fact that Torres’ possible exit would leave Barcelona without a recognised striker in Hansi Flick’s squad, Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Catalan club will not stand in his way if he wishes to leave. They will not force him to stay, meaning that a move to PSG would be almost certain if an intention to seek a move is received between now and the end of the month.
Barcelona are already in the process of trying to sign a striker to replace the already-departed Robert Lewandowski, and while the thinking could be that another is needed if Torres departs, that would not necessarily be the case. Summer signings Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi are both very capable of playing through the middle, meaning that they would likely be the backup options for Flick. Hamza Abdelkarim, who has impressed during pre-season, is also in line to be in the first team for the upcoming season.
It remains to be seen whether Torres does leave Barcelona this summer, but what’s clear is that the Catalan club cannot afford to let him run down his contract. If he is unwilling to renew, a sale this summer would be very certain.
