Liverpool have not finalised a deal to sign Bradley Barcola this summer despite reports to the contrary.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed Sacha Tavolieri’s claim on X (formerly Twitter) that the Reds have yet to reach an agreement with PSG.

This comes despite one report claiming that the Merseyside giants had nailed down a €128m [£109.7m] fee for the France international.

Bradley Barcola talks between Liverpool and PSG still have a way to go

Nothing has changed regarding Liverpool’s level of appreciation for the 23-year-old, that much is clear.

However, any notion of a breakthrough being achieved in talks is, apparently, fanciful at this stage.

That should really come as no surprise given the evident disparity between the two clubs with regard to the asking price. PSG, on the one hand, have been reported to want as much as £145m for the signing of Barcola, while Liverpool value the left winger closer to £100m.

Liverpool may need to compromise for the sake of their season

We’re probably in too deep now to seriously consider pulling out of negotiations for Bradley Barcola. Certainly, it would look incredibly farcical to have put off all other business to this point only to walk away from talks with PSG.

That said, we could really do with expediting things as much as humanly possible.

To be clear, we’re not asking for Liverpool to allow their pants to be pulled down here and just accept they’ll have to pay north of £140m.

But there’s surely a safe middle ground that can be reached, even if it requires Richard Hughes and Co. to commit £10m-20m more than they’d be comfortable with generally, that would allow us to shake hands with Luis Campos and Co. in the next week?

We’re just getting a little concerned now that we’re only 25 days away from the summer transfer window closing. And in that time, we’re supposed to also secure deals for a new striker, a backup at centre-back and right-back, and potentially a new holding six?

It doesn’t feel like enough time to get everything done, does it?
