Our View

From a disappointed Manchester United supporter’s perspective, this report feels painfully familiar. The club identify a talented player, make contact, and then the reality lands, the deal is too expensive, the wages are too high, and the player would rather stay where he is. It reads like another summer briefing that highlights ambition without delivering much confidence.

Balde is obviously an exciting option, young, quick, technically sharp, and exactly the kind of modern left-back United need. That is what makes this frustrating. If the recruitment team know the profile required, why does it so often feel as though the club are shopping at the very top end without a clear path to actually getting the deal done?

The line that Balde “wants to stay” at Barcelona should really end any sense of urgency here. United cannot keep building windows around players who are not actively looking to move. Supporters want decisive action, not another saga where the club hover on the edge of a transfer that never becomes “really concrete.”

There is also a bigger concern. If United are serious about rebuilding properly, they need targets where the finances are manageable and the player is genuinely attainable. Chasing prestige names can look impressive on paper, but fans have seen too many windows drift because deals were complicated from the start.
