Derby and Celtic both like Fofana, with the Chelsea striker spending the first half of 2025/26 with Fatih Karagumruk SK in Turkey. It's the Ivorian's second stint in the Super Lig, having spent time with Goztepe SK last season.

The 23-year-old joined Chelsea from Molde in 2022 and has been out on loan four times since then. He first went on loan to the Bundesliga via Union Berlin before notching four Premier League goals for Burnley.

That came in the second half of the 2023/24 season, with Fofana appearing 15 times for Vincent Kompany's Clarets as they were relegated back to the Championship.

With experience in the Norwegian top flight, as well as England's, Turkey's, and Germany's, it's fair to say he has had an interesting career to date. However, he could now play in yet another league despite only recently turning 23.

Fofana's Chelsea wage could be a stumbling block but Derby fans seem confident they can beat Celtic to Fofana and seal a transfer to bolter John Eustace's attacking ranks this month.

Fofana could help to fill the gap left by Carlton Morris, who has been out with a long-term injury since the end of November. There has since been an update on his future at Chelsea today, via Fabrizio Romano.

He states that the striker is set to move from Chelsea in the coming days or weeks, with Fofana's camp working on a permanent exit. Derby had been eyeing a loan deal, making it unclear whether they are still in the running.

Nizaar Kinsella of the BBC does not specifically name Derby but he adds that there is "significant interest in England and Europe over a permanent move" for Fofana this month.

Fofana is the sort of profile that many teams want now, with both the athleticism and physicality to thrive. The striker's goal record was astonishing in his teenage years and has started to pick up again this season, too.

He will be desperate to kickstart his career again with a permanent home for a longer period, having not been given the opportunities at Chelsea he would have craved after making the move from Norway.

Be that with Derby, Celtic, or someone else, Fofana is making the right decision by seeking a move that is not just another loan spell.
