Fabrizio Romano’s latest YouTube briefing offered one of the clearest Chelsea transfer updates of the season, with the journalist using his podcast-style episode to directly address stories linking the club with Real Madrid forward Rodrygo. The discussion arrived after a surge of reports from Brazil suggested Chelsea had moved into the frame for a potential deal. Romano made sure to address the matter in full.

The episode opened with Romano moving through several global stories, before shifting to the Chelsea transfer angle. He stated that, “in the last 24 hours, we had links with Chelsea concerning Rodrygo, after Brazilian outlets named the London club among possible destinations for the winger.
He then quoted those reports directly, saying, “From Brazil, they mentioned Chelsea as a possible solution for Rodrygo between the January transfer window or the summer.”
That claim was the trigger for Romano to share what he had been told by club sources. His subsequent update removed any ambiguity from the situation and stands as the most definitive Chelsea transfer update available.
Romano stressed that Chelsea’s internal position was not aligned with the Brazilian reporting. He stated:“At the moment, what I am getting as an answer from Chelsea sources is very clear.”
He continued with a precise breakdown of the club’s position:“With maximum respect for Rodrygo, Chelsea are not in negotiations for Rodrygo. Chelsea are not in talks with Rodrygo’s camp or with Real Madrid.” To eliminate any sense of ambiguity, Romano repeated the conclusion in stronger terms, adding,“There is zero ongoing between Chelsea and Rodrygo.”

He extended the point further, underscoring that the club’s attention is elsewhere:“Chelsea are not focused on Rodrygo deal again with maximum respect for a beautiful player, top player like Rodrygo, Chelsea are not working on this one.”
For a fanbase that monitors each update closely, these direct quotes form an unambiguous message. Chelsea’s stance on Rodrygo is not transitional, speculative or under review. There are no talks, no advanced contacts and no current plans to pursue the deal.
Although the focus of this update centres on Chelsea, Romano did provide additional context about Rodrygo’s general market situation which formed part of the conversation. He said that “Rodrygo goes last summer was an option for Manchester City” and mentioned that rumours of Liverpool interest were false, stating, “We had rumours about Liverpool but that was not true.” He added that there had been “no fresh contacts… since then and it was August.” This wider context is important because it reinforces that Chelsea are not late entrants into an active negotiation, nor are they attempting to revive an existing channel of communication.
While Romano stressed that Chelsea’s involvement is non-existent at present, he did address the player’s longer term future at Madrid, explaining, “If you ask me if I believe that Rodrygo could leave Real Madrid in the summer transfer window, look, I will keep an eye on this situation.” However, that broader market observation does not alter the Chelsea position he reiterated multiple times. As of this update, there is no Chelsea transfer movement toward Rodrygo in either January or the summer window.
