With a mere eight months left on his current deal with Liverpool, Trent Alexander-Arnold has persistently been linked with Real Madrid - and Fabrizio Romano has the latest information.

It’s no secret that Alexander-Arnold is a key target for Real Madrid given their propensity for signing superstars on dwindling contracts, with Kylian Mbappe being the latest example in a long list. Indeed, 25 years ago the same was true of Steve McManaman, and there are worrying parallels with the ongoing situation.

Preeminent transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano was keen to speak on the latest developments surrounding Real Madrid’s interest in Trent, and did so on the latest video posted to his YouTube channel.

“Since March, the situation has not changed. Real Madrid maintain their interest in the situation of Trent Alexander-Arnold. What I’m told is that today, Real Madrid are not negotiating with Alexander-Arnold – they are not discussing terms of a contract, salary, or project.” Romano said.

He continued: “We’re not in the advanced stages of the story, but the interest of Real Madrid is something that has been mentioned for months. To see what’s going to happen this summer depends on Liverpool because they have the priority and are talking to Alexander-Arnold, and we will see what they decide together.”

Realistically, Romano is not telling us anything we didn’t already know, but perhaps it does show that Trent is not angling for anything behind the scenes one way or the other, which depending on how it is framed would either be a positive or negative development.

If it is to be believed that no terms are yet being discussed with Madrid, perhaps it adds weight to the suggestion Alexander-Arnold remains steadfast in his commitment to stay at Anfield beyond the end of this season.
