Fagner has ended his long spell at Corinthians after agreeing a mutual termination on Wednesday, and will join Cruzeiro on a permanent deal. In a social media post he thanked supporters and colleagues, and said some people had wanted his exit.

According to Meu Timao, the agreement should save Corinthians around eight million reais when wages and settlement are included. He had been contracted until the end of 2026. The move was initiated by the player and Cruzeiro, though club debts to Fagner delayed completion.

Cruzeiro favoured a rescission to avoid a transfer fee, while Corinthians gain wage-bill relief, having covered 50% of his salary during the loan. Corinthians receive no fee, and he had been free to sign a pre-contract from 1 July.

Corinthians have only one specialist right-back, Matheuzinho, and a transfer ban prevents new registrations, which would have made Fagner immediate cover. Léo Mana is on loan at Criciúma.

Fagner came through the academy, debuted at 17, left for Europe, then returned to play 11 straight seasons. He made 578 appearances, scored 12 goals and supplied 70 assists, winning five titles, three Paulistas and two Brasileiros. At Cruzeiro, where he arrived in early 2025, he has played 17 games with one assist, and missed four months after a right fibula fracture in a 0-0 draw with CRB in the Copa do Brasil last 16.
