A turbulent finish followed Famalicão 2-2 Benfica. The 105-minute contest ended with flashpoints on the pitch and unrest in the stands, and referee Gustavo Correia was heavily criticised by the visitors.
After the final whistle, José Mourinho headed for the tunnel, then became involved in a heated exchange with Famalicão defender Pedro Bondo. A Bola reports that it amounted only to strong words, Bondo was moved away and Mourinho continued towards the dressing room.
Discontent was clear among Benfica supporters, both with the team’s display and the officiating. Pockets of tension and insults were reported in the stands at the Famalicão ground.
On the pitch, Andreas Schjelderup and Richard Ríos had put Benfica in front. The second half had other plans for Mourinho’s side as the hosts restored parity.
The draw left Benfica with two points dropped in Famalicão, and the aftermath in Minho was marked by ill-tempered scenes.
