Famous faces born and bred in Walsall

Walsall has produced a string of household names across music, sport and business.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, the Black Country town is famed as Britain’s leather capital, with centuries of saddlery and leatherwork, and it also boasts Walsall FC.
Among its most recognisable exports is Slade frontman Noddy Holder, born in Walsall. Renowned for his powerful voice, he co-wrote many of the band’s hits with Jim Lea, including Mama Weer All Crazee Now, Cum On Feel the Noize and Merry Xmas Everybody.
Retail tycoon Mike Ashley was born in Walsall and grew up in Buckinghamshire. The Frasers Group chief executive, formerly Sports Direct, has been described as the 61st richest person in the UK with an estimated net worth of £2.718 billion.
Singer songwriter Jorja Smith was born in the town. Her debut album, Lost & Found, arrived in 2018 to critical acclaim and reached number three on the UK Albums Chart.
Producer and DJ Goldie, also born in Walsall, became a leading figure in the 1990s UK jungle, drum and bass and breakbeat hardcore scenes.
