According to L'Équipe, an international coalition of supporter associations launched an online petition at midday on Thursday demanding the resignation of FIFA president Gianni Infantino and deep reform of the governing body.

The group says football belongs to those who pack stadiums, follow their clubs and national teams through triumphs and setbacks, travel across countries and continents, and pass the game down the generations.

Signatories include Football Supporters Europe, the Association nationale des supporters and the Irrésistibles français.

They are calling for formal involvement of supporters and other key stakeholders in decisions that shape the sport’s future.

The statement argues that one man now seems to consider himself more important than the game itself.
