Durban City FC has mutually agreed to part ways with head coach Gavin Hunt, the club confirmed on Monday. The decision comes after an internal review of the team’s footballing strategy, with the board concluding that a new direction is necessary to achieve the club’s objectives.

Chairman Farook Kadodia stated, “This was a mutual decision, taken with the club’s best interests at heart. I’d like to thank Gavin personally for his hard work and dedication. We all wish him well for the future.”

He added, “It is now the right time for change. We look to build a competitive side with the future in mind.”

The news follows an initial report by FARPost on Sunday, which indicated the veteran coach was set to leave the newly promoted Betway Premiership side.

Assistant coach Pitso Dladla will assume interim leadership, with his first match in charge scheduled for Wednesday, December 3rd, against Orbit College FC in an away league fixture.

Currently positioned eighth in the league standings with 19 points from 14 matches, the club plans to use the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations break to appoint a permanent successor.

A club statement explained, “The club will utilise the upcoming break during the Africa Cup of Nations to conduct its appointment process for a permanent successor. This timeline is designed to allow the new head coach a clear period to prepare the squad for the second half of the season.”
