FC Bayern Women equal record with Mainz win | OneFootball

FC Bayern Women beat Mainz 2-0 in their first home fixture of the 2026/27 Google Pixel Bundesliga season to equal the league’s record of 44 games in a row without defeat. Giulia Gwinn opened the scoring in the first half at the FC Bayern Campus on Monday evening, before Vanessa Gilles added a late second. Lena Oberdorf also made her long-awaited return from her cruciate ligament injury to great applause.

Gwinn breaks deadlock

Bayern controlled matters from the start and had their first chance in the fourth minute when Linda Dallmann ran into the box onto Pernille Harder’s through ball, but her shot flew just over the crossbar. It remained one-way traffic at the Campus as the champions forced the promoted side deep into their own half. Klara Bühl found space on the left wing, but her cross narrowly evaded the lurking Harder at the far post.

With Mainz’s defence holding firm, Bayern tried their luck from further out. Jovana Damnjanović saw an effort from 20 yards go wide, before the deadlock was finally broken with seven minutes remaining of the first half. Bühl’s cross from the right found the sliding Dallmann at the far post. She was able to put the ball back across goal for Gwinn to run onto and smash into the roof of the net from close range.

Dominance leads to second goal

The second period followed much the same pattern of the first. Kathi Naschenweng had another long-range effort after the restart but also failed to hit the target. Mainz were content to try and hit on the break, which they attempted from a corner, only for Vital Katz to send her shot under pressure well wide.

A free-kick into the box from the left found the head of Harder arriving at the far post, but she couldn’t make full contact, allowing goalkeeper Mamiko Matsumoto to gather. While the Mainz custodian’s compatriot Momoko Tanikawa was making her 50th appearance for Bayern, Sarah Mattner came on for her competitive debut in red as the Munich Frauen continued to dictate play. Oberdorf and Alara both had further attempts after their introductions, as did Edna Imade with a header, but it was fellow substitute Gilles who finally broke Mainz’s defensive resolve with a header from Bühl’s corner in added time.

Freiburg then Leverkusen

Fresh from their first home game of the season, José Barcala’s side have another fixture at the Campus next up as Freiburg come to Munich for Matchday 3 in the Bundesliga on Sunday (16:00 CEST). The double winners then go to Bayer Leverkusen on Monday, 14 September (18:00).
