FC Bayern Women have won their first title of the 2024/25 season thanks to a 1-0 win over DFB Cup holders Wolfsburg in the Google Pixel Supercup. Klara Bühl’s ninth-minute goal proved the difference for the Bundesliga champions in Dresden.

Two changes

Head coach Alexander Straus made two changes to the team that started the goalless friendly with Juventus on Tuesday. Giulia Gwinn returned for Franziska Kett, while Bühl came in for Samantha Kerr. Captain Glodis Viggosdottir made here 100th competitive appearance for Bayern. Substitute Lea Schüller came on for her 130th game.

Bühl strikes early

Bayern were dominant from the start and looked to control the game. It took them just nine minutes to create the first good chance, but Linda Dallmann was denied by Merle Frohms from close range. The danger wasn’t over yet, though, as Wolfsburg failed to clear their lines. Pernille Harder picked up the ball in a central position, played it through to Bühl right of goal, and she finished low and hard into the far corner. The Munich ladies remained on the front foot and thought they had a second through Harder after 18 minutes, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Fans were ready to celebrate for a third time on the half-hour mark when Magdalena Eriksson headed a Dallmann header towards goal, only for Wolfsburg captain Svenja Huth to clear off the line. Straus’s team maintained control up to the break and took their lead into half-time.

Big saves from Grohs

Wolfsburg came out for the second half needing to do more and indeed started to pose more of a threat. Marina Hegering headed a corner narrowly wide a bit before the hour. Bayern carved out another chance of their own when Bühl went up the left and found Dallmann via Jovana Damnjanovic, but she couldn’t get away a controlled shot. The DFB Cup holders looked most threatening from set pieces, with one Huth corner getting flicked on by Janina Minge to Lena Lattwein, who forced a great stop out of Mala Grohs with her feet. The FCB goalkeeper was then at full stretch to deny Huth from range, tipping the shot around the post. The She-Wolves threw all they had in the closing minutes, but Bayern saw out the win to lift the first piece of silverware of the new season.

They then go to Sand for the second round of the DFB Cup between 7 and 10 September, with the exact date and time yet to be confirmed.
