Following Wednesday’s 2-0 win away at Juventus in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, FC Bayern Women conclude a busy period with a visit to third-placed Bayer Leverkusen in the Google Pixel Bundesliga on Sunday. Kick-off at the Ulrich-Haberland-Stadion on Matchday 7 is at 6.30pm CEST. Here’s all you need to know in our preview.

Latest news from Bayern

Last weekend saw Bayern’s remarkable run of 44 league games without defeat come to an end with a 2-0 loss at Wolfsburg despite a good performance. Alexander Straus’s team had previously won their first five games of the campaign. It leaves the defending champions in second place in the table after six matchdays, a point behind Eintracht Frankfurt.

Bayern’s displays in the Champions League will give them a real push, though, having won both of their group games so far with a 5-2 victory over Arsenal and this week’s three points in Turin.

Sam Kerr and Bayern are preparing to face one of the two remaining unbeaten teams in the Bundesliga as they go to Leverkusen.

Opponent: Bayer Leverkusen

Leverkusen have made a very good start to 2024/25 with a record of four wins and two draws from their opening six games. The Werkself also came away from current leaders Frankfurt unscathed with a 2-2 draw. Last weekend saw Roberto Pätzold’s side denied three points by a late equaliser in their 1-1 draw away at Werder Bremen, which would’ve taken them level with Eintracht at the summit. Leverkusen currently have 14 points to sit third.

Team news

Bayern are still without Lena Oberdorf (cruciate ligament), Katharina Naschenweng (knee) and Franziska Kett (ankle) for the trip to Leverkusen.

Pre-match quotes

Alexander Straus: “The mood is good. We’ve had a very good start to the season on the whole and have had great performances. Now it’s about being fit and fresh for Sunday. A day or two more to recover would’ve been nice, but things looked good in training today. Now we’ll prepare with full concentration for Sunday’s game. Leverkusen have also made an excellent start to the season and have been playing in a very organised and disciplined way. But we want to win. And if we perform on Sunday, we’ll hopefully do so.”

Linda Dallmann: “We want to take the momentum from the Champions League into the Bundesliga and get back to winning ways there. If we play in the league as we’ve done in the Champions League, then we can cause problems for every opponent. We’re looking forward to Sunday and the game against Leverkusen.”
