Sport Bild reports that newly promoted Bundesliga side FC Köln are poised to complete another major summer signing. The Effzeh – having already secured the services of FC Kaiserslautern striker Ragnar Ache ahead of the coming top flight campaign – will soon acquire Icelandic attacking midfielder Isak Jóhannesson from Fortuna Düsseldorf.
Köln signed Ache away from Lautern for a reported €4m. Jóhannesson will end up coasting die Geißböcke slightly more. The 22-year-old is available via a €5.5m release clause in his current contract, signed when Düsseldorf permanently purchased Jóhannesson from FC Copenhagen in January 2024.
Jóhannesson contributed an excellent season for the Flingeraner in the 2 Bundesliga, scoring 11 goals and registering seven assists in 32 league appearances. In the process, the already 33-times-capped Icelandic international doubled his estimate market value to €7m.
Köln have scored a major transfer coup from one of their rival Westphalian carnival clubs. Sport Bild claims that Jóhannesson is due in the cathedral city for a medical on Sunday.
