FC Koln ‘to consider’ Leeds defender Sebastiaan Bornauw for a summer return less than a year after his move to Elland Road, according to Kicker.
The Belgian joined Leeds last summer for €6 million, around £5.2 million, on a four-year deal as part of Daniel Farke’s defensive rebuild that also brought in £15 million centre-back Jaka Bijol. Fitness problems have limited him to four Premier League starts, which came amid injuries elsewhere, plus five substitute cameos arriving with roughly a minute and stoppage time to play.
Interest emerged in January but Leeds, still fighting to stay up and with Joe Rodon injured, quickly shut down any exit. With safety now virtually secured, the 27-year-old is again being linked with a Bundesliga return.
Koln are planning a defensive reshuffle and, at six points above the drop with two games to play, are already looking ahead. Bornauw previously made 57 appearances and scored seven goals for the Billy Goats between 2018 and 2021 at the RheinEnergieStadion.
Any move would depend largely on Leeds, with three years left on his contract and no pressing need to sell. Leeds have amortised roughly £5 million of his fee, leaving an estimated £3.75 million book value, so a higher offer would be required to record a profit.
