Leeds defender Sebastiaan Bornauw is being linked with a swift Bundesliga return, with the club now virtually safe from relegation.
According to Kicker, Bornauw is a candidate for Koln this summer as they plan a defensive restructure. The Billy Goats are six points above the drop with two games left and are planning ahead.
Interest in the 27-year-old surfaced in January but, with Leeds still battling to survive and Joe Rodon injured at the time, any exit was shut down quickly.
Koln’s recruitment team are seeking defensive experience and know Bornauw well after his 2018 to 2021 spell at the RheinEnergieStadion. He made 57 appearances across all competitions and scored seven goals.
Any move would largely depend on Leeds, with three years remaining on the Belgian’s contract and no need to sell. His roughly £5m fee has been amortised across the deal, leaving a book value of about £3.75m, so an offer above that figure would be required to book a profit.
