Brigade Loire, FC Nantes’ main ultras group, have voiced serious doubts about a project led by former agent Paulo Tavares, while saying they are not opposed to owner Waldemar Kita’s exit.

A sale agreement was signed on Tuesday between Kita, the owner since 2007, and the Tavares-led project. In a statement on their website on Thursday, Brigade Loire said a change of owner is needed but not at any price.

The statement questioned the project’s substance, seriousness and financial strength, saying that as their research progresses, more questions are emerging rather than fading.

It added that the club’s future is too important to be left in the shadows, and criticised the silence of the City of Nantes and Nantes Métropole’s elected officials.

The group pledged to remain extremely vigilant and uncompromising towards any takeover, stressing the club is neither a toy nor a financial asset to be used for personal interests.

Brigade Loire were founded in August 1998, making their first official public appearance in January 1999.
