Froholdt, a starter in all six FC Porto matches this season, will miss the home game against Manchester City, creating a midfield vacancy. According to O Jogo, Farioli has only Monday’s session to test alternatives alongside Gabri Veiga.
Inbeom, Fofana and Pablo Rosario are the leading candidates. If the Dominican is chosen, Alan Varela would take the holding role. Fofana fits the brief yet his readiness to start is uncertain. Inbeom has impressed from the bench.
Porto host City on Tuesday at 20:00 in the opening round of the Champions League league phase.
It was a major scare. Froholdt has been discharged and is resting at home with support from the club, his girlfriend and brother Hjalte. He is out of the City game and, in principle, will also be spared against Casa Pia, targeting Benfica.
He lost consciousness after a clash with Liberato. Bednarek immediately put him in the recovery position to keep his airway clear. He was taken to Hospital de São João for observation, arriving conscious and in good spirits.
Exams, repeated the next morning, confirmed a mild traumatic brain injury, ruling out more serious scenarios. He registered 15, the maximum, on the Glasgow Coma Scale. A gradual return-to-play protocol has begun, with no clearance possible in fewer than six days.
If progress continues, he could do some non-contact work on the pitch tomorrow, with contact only from Thursday at the earliest. Porto would then certify his readiness with UEFA. Caution may postpone any comeback beyond Casa Pia.
