FC Porto’s attacking absences open door for Niang | OneFootball

FC Porto are light in attack, and 20-year-old Mame Niang could be included for the second round trip to Vila do Conde on Saturday at 20:30, if André Silva does not recover and if he convinces Francesco Farioli in training.

According to O Jogo, the medical department is treating a lengthy list across the squad, leaving Farioli to draft in B team players for sessions. On Tuesday Niang trained with the seniors, and with André Silva out, the coach had only Deniz Gul available and called up the youngster for the coming days.

Niang was unused by João Brandão in the B team’s defeat to Lusitânia de Lourosa, so he has yet to show what he says he brings, namely a knack for scoring goals. He joined from HamKam for €1.6 million.

André Silva continues treatment on a right ankle sprain, making his involvement more difficult, though not impossible. Alan Varela and Alberto Costa have better chances of being ready for Vila do Conde.

After the 2-0 win over Alverca to open the league campaign, the squad had a day off before regrouping with several still under medical supervision. André Silva, Alan Varela and Oskar Pietuszewski were in treatment, Cláudio Ramos and Alberto Costa in treatment and modified training, and Vasco Sousa, André Miranda and Samu on restricted training.

To bolster numbers, five B team players stepped up, Niang alongside goalkeeper Gonçalo Ribeiro, defender António Ribeiro, midfielder Eirik Granaas and winger Duarte Cunha. None started for the B side, and only Cunha and Granaas came off the bench.
