Adrián Negro has been appointed assistant coach of FC Bayern Women. The 36-year-old Spaniard has signed a contract until 30 June 2028 and will bolster head coach José Barcala’s team from next season.

Rech: ‘Confident Adrián will be a brilliant fit’

Bianca Rech, director of women’s football at FC Bayern: “We are delighted that Adrián Negro is joining us for the new season. He comes here with a wide range of experience from youth, women’s and men’s football, and has worked in various countries on different continents. This international influence, combined with his openness to different football cultures and ways of working, will enrich our coaching staff. On top of that, Adrián has already worked very closely and successfully with José Barcala in the past, meaning he knows our playing style and the demands very well. We are confident that he will be a brilliant fit for us with his technical competence and his personality. His expertise and energy will help us to continually develop the team and continue on our path with conviction. We look forward to working together in the coming years.”

Adrián Negro: “FC Bayern is the biggest post of my career to date, and I am really looking forward to this job. Every step I have taken has been preparing me for this moment. Since my childhood, I associate special memories with this club – the men’s Champions League final in 2001, for example, or Roy Makaay, who played for my hometown club and became a legend in Munich. The opportunity to work with José Barcala, who I’ve had a close and trusting relationship with for many years, makes this job even more special for me. At the same time, Bianca Rech and Francisco de Sá Fardilha have shown great faith in me throughout the whole process, which I want to repay with my day-to-day work in the future. I will do everything I can to support the team, drive forward their development and celebrate successes together with them.”

Wide-ranging international experience

Negro, born on 26 March 1990 in the town of Muxía in the province A Coruña in Galicia, began his coaching career in 2015 in Spanish men’s football at CD Lugo. The 36-year-old then gained experience at youth level in the FC Barcelona Academy and at Olympic FC in Brisbane, Australia. After returning to Spain in 2020, the UEFA A Licence holder worked for SD Fisterra in the Tercera División before going into women’s football in 2021 as part of the Scotland women’s team coaching staff until 2024. During this period, he worked alongside Barcala for the first time over an extended period. Between 2024 and 2026, Negro was also a co-founder of a training centre in A Coruña specialising in performance development and rehabilitation. In addition to his practical work in professional football, he holds a master’s degree in Rehabilitation and Conditioning.
