La Fédération calédonienne de football (FCF), an associate member of the FFF since a convention signed in late 2024, said in a statement on Friday that it had reaffirmed its support for Gianni Infantino as the FIFA president faces a fierce crisis over his now-abandoned plan to privatise part of the World Cup.
Its rationale included a vision of greater equity between FIFA member associations and a more balanced spread of representation across the world’s regions, alongside praise for Infantino’s listening and consultative approach.
Reforms under his tenure were described as delivering a historic increase in Oceania Football Confederation participation across international competitions, creating unprecedented opportunities for New Caledonian teams to reach World Cup finals.
While a handful of allies still defend him, Infantino has lost numerous backers since the privatisation proposal, including New Zealand on Friday.
UEFA is maintaining pressure for him to leave his post.
