Inter Milan have reportedly taken a decisive step as Manchester United prepare to advance their pursuit of Federico Dimarco.
After focusing on strengthening the attack during the summer transfer window, United are now expected to turn their attention to other areas of the squad.
United are believed to be eyeing a midfielder and a right-wing-back, in a bid to ensure Ruben Amorim has the tools necessary to make the club a competitive outfit once again.
Last month, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Amorim is keen on signing Dimarco, who has been a key part of Inter’s success over the past few years. It was stated that Dimarco had slipped slightly down the pecking order under new manager Cristian Chivu, and there was a genuine possibility he could leave the club.
A subsequent report claimed that United are eyeing a January bid for Dimarco.
Now, a fresh update has indicated that Amorim has designated Dimarco a “priority target” ahead of the winter window, but Inter are ready to hand him a new deal to ward off interested parties.
According to Spanish news outlet Fichajes, “Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim reportedly has Dimarco as one of his firm summer targets. Amorim reportedly believes the player would fit perfectly into his preferred setup, especially in a two-wing back system, where Dimarco’s attacking talent is invaluable.”
“Meanwhile, Inter Milan is not slacking off. The club has noted the player’s excellent start to the season, which has prompted negotiations for a new contract.”
It’s understood that Dimarco has yet to make a decision on his future. Staying at Inter would guarantee him continuity and an improved salary.
However, given that his place under Chivu is not certain, a switch to United would offer Dimarco the opportunity to prove himself on a bigger stage and take on a fresh challenge in a new country.
Fichajes note that Inter haven’t completely ruled out sanctioning a sale, especially if United present them with a compelling offer.
The 27-year-old has contributed two goals and three assists in six Serie A appearances this term.
