Fredrik Aursnes is back in Norway’s squad after almost two years away, having announced his retirement in March 2024 to prioritise life beyond football.

Brann midfielder Felix Horn Myhre, who debuted in September and has five caps and two goals, is among those affected. “It is a bit sad for me,” he said, speaking to TV2.

“He is playing at a high level at Benfica and, in the games I have seen, he has looked good in the Champions League. It definitely makes things harder for me. There is no doubt about that.”

“It is absolutely fantastic for Norway. He is a class player who can help a lot. I can be upset and think it is unfair or feel lucky to be part of it, and the place is his.”

This season for Benfica, Aursnes has played 42 matches, 21 in Liga Portugal Betclic, 14 in the Champions League, four in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça. Across 3,585 minutes he has four goals and seven assists. He is valued at 17 million euros.
