According to Meu Timao, the clubs will split the defender’s wages. The agreement also includes an option to buy, with the fee kept confidential.

Torres had been in Porto Alegre since Thursday after being cleared to complete a medical and finalise paperwork.

Talks had been advanced since the start of the year. A sum owed by Corinthians to the player, estimated at 500,000 dollars, about R$ 2.7 million at current rates, delayed the conclusion. After Corinthians tabled a proposal, discussions with the Porto Alegre club were finalised.

Torres joined Corinthians in January 2024 after the club paid 6.5 million dollars to Santos Laguna of Mexico, roughly R$ 32.1 million at the time. Overdue instalments on that deal led to a FIFA transfer ban, lifted at the start of this year. Corinthians hold 80% of his economic rights and his contract runs to December 2027.

He has played 80 games for Corinthians, starting 73, and has scored one goal. Last year he lost ground under Dorival Júnior and was regarded as the fifth-choice centre-back, with Gabriel Paulista’s arrival adding further competition.
