Ferland Mendy has suffered a right femoral tendon injury, the latest setback in a stop-start season with Real Madrid.
The French left-back was withdrawn after 14 minutes of Sunday’s 2-0 win at Espanyol. On Monday the club said in a statement that he has a lesion in his right thigh, with no timeline given.
It is already his fourth injury of the campaign, and recurring physical issues have limited his continuity despite good performances when available.
Real Madrid's medical team will monitor his recovery closely. Coaching staff are likely to turn to Fran Garcia on the left.
Mendy will miss the clash with Barcelona on Sunday 10 May, a match that could make Barcelona champions of Spain if they avoid defeat.
