Fernando Gago suffers heart attack during press conference

Fernando Gago fell ill during his post-match press conference following Universidad de Chile’s win over O’Higgins. It was later confirmed he had suffered a heart attack.

The club said in a statement on X that he was in good condition and was being supported by the medical staff.

He is undergoing cardiovascular tests and will not oversee training today.

During the briefing, Gago showed clear pain while answering questions, then left the room after taking water.

Gago began his managerial career with Aldosivi in 2021, then moved to Racing Club, where he strengthened his reputation. He later led Chivas de Guadalajara, Boca Juniors and Necaxa. He took charge of Universidad de Chile in 2026, his first job in Chilean football.
