Ferran Torres has revealed that his move from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain was in motion long before the summer transfer window, with the forward admitting that he had already decided to join the European champions when serious talks began.

Ferran left Barcelona after four and a half seasons and completed a move worth close to €50 million.

The Spain international made it clear that his decision was driven by the opportunity to take another step in his career rather than the goal he scored in the World Cup final against Argentina.

“Contacts with PSG began even before the World Cup. They rang us up and we were in talks.

“By the time we spoke, I’d already made up my mind because I wanted to play for a club like PSG.

“It’s a step forward in my career that I’m incredibly proud of because I’m joining the European champions,” he said, as per Mundo Deportivo.

Luis Enrique and Luis Campos convinced Ferran

The influence of PSG manager Luis Enrique was particularly important in the decision.

The former Barcelona and Spain coach has worked closely with Torres at international level and has consistently placed his trust in the forward.

“I’ve always said that Luis Enrique has been like a father to me ever since I joined the Spanish national team.

“He’s always believed in me, and now he’s believed in me enough to help me sign for PSG.

“He’s always given me a great deal of confidence, and I hope to repay that this season. Both Luis Enrique and Luis Campos have played a vital role in bringing me here.

“I’m very grateful for the trust they’ve placed in me. I’m currently settling in – I’ve been here for two weeks – and the only way forward for me now is to keep improving and be ready to support my teammates.

“I can’t wait to win trophies and matches at this incredible club.”

Barcelona reunion already awaits in Paris

The move will also give Ferran an unusually quick reunion with his former club.

PSG have been drawn against Barcelona in the Champions League, with the two teams scheduled to meet at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday, October 20.

For Ferran, facing the players he shared a dressing room with for four and a half years is certain to bring back some emotions.

“The match against Barcelona will be special. They were my teammates for four and a half years.

“It’s going to be an exciting fixture for me and for the team. PSG v Barcelona matches are always special.

“We’ll try to win, but we’ll see. PSG are currently the best team in Europe. They’ve won the last two Champions Leagues. And that puts even more pressure on their opponents.

“We need to improve. We’ll try to win the Champions League for the third year running,” he concluded.
