Fewer games, more pressure: Bayern face a decisive February

FC Bayern have had an enormous workload over the past three weeks. Seven games in just 20 days demanded everything from the players and management. But even if February looks much more relaxed on paper, the Munich side now have several landmark clashes to look forward to

The record champions got off to an impressive start to the new year with an 8:1 win over VfL Wolfsburg and a 5:0 victory over RB Leipzig. But the longer January went on, the more arduous their performances became. Two controlled victories against Union Saint-Gilloise and PSV Eindhoven were enough in the Champions League, but FCB recently went winless twice in a row in the Bundesliga

After the 2-2 draw at Hamburger SV, relief prevailed despite the loss of yet another point, with sporting director Max Eberl aptly summing up the mood when he spoke of a „very, very complicated January“ and emphasized how happy they were to have put this stint behind them

February brings a noticeable relief in the calendar. Only five competitive matches are scheduled in the next four weeks, with only one English week awaiting Vincent Kompany’s team. However, the impression of relaxation is deceptive. The opponents are tough – and any slip-up could have serious consequences

FC Bayern kick off their campaign next Sunday against TSG Hoffenheim, the third-placed team in the table with an unblemished run of five wins in a row and currently one of the league’s most in-form teams. The quarter-final of the DFB Cup against RB Leipzig follows just three days later. Although Bayern have clearly won the most recent league duels, Leipzig have proven that they can pose a threat to the record champions in the Allianz Arena. A cup exit would put an abrupt end to the first title dream of the season. Anyone wishing to place a sports bet on these matches can do so easily at Meta Spins

Bundesliga pressure and classics at the end of the month

After the cup clash, two unpleasant tasks await in the league. First up is an away trip to Bremen, followed by FCB’s visit to Eintracht Frankfurt. Both teams come into the game with fresh impetus following changes of coach and have the potential to spring surprises. After the recent points losses to Augsburg and HSV, Bayern cannot afford any further slip-ups here if they do not want to put their lead at the top of the table in unnecessary danger

The highlight comes at the end of the month, with the classic clash against Borussia Dortmund at Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park on 28 February. In front of a home crowd, BVB could close the gap on Bayern even further with a win and heat up the championship battle once again

Although the fixture list in February is more manageable, the importance of the upcoming games is enormous. This month will be a real yardstick for FC Bayern – both in sporting and mental terms.
