The FFF’s executive committee has approved Union Foot de Touraine’s application to join National 1, formerly N2, pending sign-off from the amateur league’s bureau this evening.
According to L'Équipe, the Comex met on Tuesday and ruled in favour of the Indre-et-Loire club, who finished second in their N3 group last season after a protracted administrative and legal battle to move up.
Union Touraine argues it should have been reprieved ahead of Canet when a replacement was needed for Girondins de Bordeaux in N1 following their exclusion from the national competitions. After the decision, the FFF’s organising commission must now meet this evening to determine which N1 group will receive the club.
The restructure will create a 17-team pool rather than the 16 initially planned. Officials must either introduce an extra relegation at season’s end, add four more matchdays, or rework the calendar from the second matchday without further changes.
The National 2 group that was to include Union Touraine will be left one team short of the 14 expected, so one fewer relegation should apply at the end of the campaign. The entire plan still requires validation by the Bureau exécutif de la Ligue de football amateur, BELFA.
