FIFA, world football’s governing body, have initiated contacts with the powers that be at La Liga giants Real Madrid.
This comes with a view to the 2030 World Cup.
Plans have of course long been in place for the World Cup two editions from now to be held across a range of countries and cities.
And, if the latest word to have come to the fore in the media is anything to go by, FIFA have already come to the decision on their favoured venue for the tournament finale.
The ground in question? The Santiago Bernabéu.
As per a report from Marca:
‘FIFA wants the 2030 World Cup final to be held at the Santiago Bernabéu.’
Negotiations, as a result, have already been kicked into gear with Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez, and the Blancos hierarchy.
Real, it is understood, have made clear that they do not intend to give up their home stadium for an extended period of time.
Nevertheless, Marca add that ‘there is a lot of time left and the agreement will eventually arrive’, with the Spanish champions fully aware of the prestige and monetary gain that comes with hosting such occasions.
