Gianni Infantino, the driving force behind FIFA, was awarded the title of honorary citizen of Reggio Calabria, presented by mayor Giuseppe Falcomatà. The distinction was given during a special ceremony in his honor. "This honor means a lot to me, and it will help strengthen the ties I have always maintained with this city. Reggio Calabria is my city and my father's city. I have so many memories here. Two weeks ago, I was at the White House, alongside President Trump, but the emotion I feel here today is completely different. If I have succeeded in everything I have done and everything I will do, it is also thanks to this wonderful land, rich in values that have given me the will to dream and to always try," confided the head of world football's governing body.

"The story of the Infantino family is somewhat reminiscent of that of our southern Italy. It is also the story of so many fathers who found themselves faced with the choice of staying in their native region or leaving, confronted with so many difficulties. Often, it was not a choice, but the only option available to them," said mayor Falcomatà.
