FIFA has sanctioned Malaysia with three 3-0 forfeits for fielding players guilty of nationality fraud.

The Football Association of Malaysia said in a statement on Wednesday it had been punished, denied any wrongdoing and intends to take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

An investigation was opened after a complaint following Malaysia’s 4-0 win over Vietnam in June in Asian Cup qualifying, when two of the seven players scored.

The investigation found that Hector Hevel, Jon Irazabal, Gabriel Palmero, Facundo Garces, Rodrigo Holgado, Imanol Machuca and Joao Brandao Figueiredo had no parent or grandparent born in Malaysia, a requirement for national selection. All seven were born abroad and have been suspended.

Home friendly wins against Palestine and Singapore, and the draw with Cape Verde, have been reclassified as 3-0 defeats.

The fine of 440,000 dollars has been increased by 12,500 dollars.
