Samu Castillejo, the former Valencia CF winger, criticised the handling of the recent mass arrivals in Ceuta and Melilla in an Instagram story, venting frustration at bureaucracy.

According to Superdeporte, the post came as the two autonomous cities faced one of their biggest migration crises in recent years, with heavy border pressure prompting reinforced security, expanded humanitarian support and extraordinary measures.

In his message he compared the mass entries with hurdles he says residents and migrants face in everyday paperwork. He cited a Spaniard with many years of contributions unable to vaccinate an Italian-born child lacking a Spanish ID, and a person who fled their country seeking work confronted by an endless list of requirements.

He ended the post with a blunt Spanish expletive.

The story spread quickly online, provoking mixed reactions. Some supported his attack on bureaucracy and political management of the crisis, while others rejected the comparison and noted that border control and administrative procedures are distinct.

His comments have added to the wider public debate as authorities respond to the situation and coordinate with Morocco.
