Filipe Luís gains UEFA Pro Licence after Flamengo Libertadores title under new UEFA CONMEBOL agreement | OneFootball

Filipe Luís has secured the UEFA Pro Licence. The Monaco head coach qualified under a new UEFA CONMEBOL recognition process that credits Flamengo's Libertadores title last year, allowing him to work anywhere in Europe.

The agreement took effect at the start of August and provides a route for South American coaches to obtain clearance in Europe. ESPN reports that Monaco director Thiago Scuro helped mediate between UEFA and CONMEBOL to make the deal happen.

The framework sets three criteria for the Pro Licence: completion of the top coaching course, three years in charge of a top-flight club or national team, and winning an international competition having managed at least 50% of games and the final. The third was met in November last year with Flamengo.

The change removes the need for Monaco to pay a fine to keep Filipe Luís in the dugout. It also opens a pathway for other Brazilians, with Renato Gaúcho, a 2017 Libertadores winner with Grêmio, eligible.

Competitions recognised include the Libertadores, Copa Sudamericana and Copa América, plus the Champions League, Europa League, Conference League and the European Championship. In his first months at Monaco, Filipe Luís has drawn notice, including a friendly win at Liverpool, and he is contracted to the French club until the end of the 2028 season.
