Filipe Luís, the former Flamengo coach, has been linked with Benfica amid uncertainty over José Mourinho’s future, with ex-Flamengo player Juninho Vieira offering support for the potential appointment.
“He is a great coach and, if he goes to Benfica, it will work out,” said Juninho Vieira. He told Antena 1.
“Flamengo has much more pressure than at Benfica. If he does go to Benfica, I wish him the best of luck,” he added.
Now with Pumas in Mexico, the former Flamengo player won trophies alongside Filipe Luís at the Rio club, including the Libertadores, Brasileirão, Taça do Brasil and Supertaça. Filipe Luís has also worked under Jorge Jesus.
Luís is among the names floated as potential successors should Mourinho move on. The Portuguese has said several times that he wants to remain at Benfica. Marco Silva is also being considered by the board.
