Flamengo began the Carioca with an under-20 side while the senior squad were in pre-season. According to Coluna Do Fla, a change of course is now on the table, softening Filipe Luís’s initial plan.
After two defeats and one draw from the first three rounds, the club will on Tuesday 20 consider bringing forward first-team reinforcements for the Vasco match. Any return would depend on fitness assessments with the players.
Left to Filipe Luís and his staff, the original schedule would remain. Given the current situation, the decision is being taken collectively by the presidency, football department and coaching team.
Bottom of Group B, Flamengo risk entering the Carioca relegation quadrangular, which would add two extra fixtures to the calendar. The scenario is pushing the club to prioritise immediate results.
Ayrton Lucas, Emerson Royal, Allan, Evertton Araújo, Michael and Everton Cebolinha are among those under consideration to face Vasco. If some senior players return, Bruno Pivetti would step aside on the touchline and Filipe Luís would lead the clássico.
Flamengo meet Vasco at 21:30 Brasília time on Wednesday 21 at the Maracanã.
